Welcome to ESLPortalPA ESLPortalPA is the Center for Schools and Communities Web-based portal for English as a Second Language (ESL) resources. This portal is maintained in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Penn State University – Harrisburg and is a single front door to online information for educators, pupil personnel staff and community service providers who work with English Language Learner students and their families. ESLPortalPA provides easy and more direct access to ESL resources and services such as registering for upcoming professional development training opportunities and conferences, state directed training information, browsing the clearinghouse of resources, reading news, reviewing ESL research and locating newly released publications, finding quick links to other ESL sites, searching the web and more. 2008-09 Pennsylvania Department of EducationESL Professional Development Opportunities From September 2008 through April 2009, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Teaching and Learning Support, in partnership with Penn State University and the Center for Schools and Communities, will be offering a series of professional development training opportunities for English as a Second Language (ESL) professional educators. This professional development series is designed to build the capacity of educators and administrators to improve the achievements of English Language Learners (ELLs). This year’s professional development trainings will present the latest research and practice on the instruction of ELLs. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the Institute of Education Sciences has just updated the Career/Technical Education Statistics (CTES) website.The CTES website includes tables describing career/technical education (CTE) at three levels: 1) secondary/high school CTE, 2) postsecondary/college career education, and 3) adult education for work. These tables are updated periodically to incorporate new CTE-related topics and data from new surveys. In this update, 36 tables were added to the secondary/high school tables, covering the topic of high school student participation in CTE. Fifteen new tables were added to the postsecondary/college tables, replacing tables on current postsecondary career education offerings and credentials with tables on trends in offerings and credentials.
