Bridging the Gap: How to Support English Language Learners After They Exit from ESOL
Date: May 14, 2009
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Hanover Country Club, Abbottstown, PA

Intended Audience: ESL Administrators, ESL teachers, classroom teachers

Former ELLs (those reclassified as “proficient” and no longer receiving specialized language services) are often overlooked in our schools. Research shows, however, that their performance can decrease significantly over time without sufficient on-going scaffolding in the mainstream classroom. In this workshop, the potential gap between exit criteria and grade level expectations, common areas of need for exited ELLs, processes and procedures for monitoring former ELLs, and the classroom practices that can support these students will be addressed.
