Title III and Accountability

The Title III Program is a United States Department of Education formula grant program to enhance the education of English language learners and immigrant children and youth. Part of the federal NCLB Act of 2001, Title III Part A, English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement Act, it specifically targets English learners and immigrant children with the goal of ensuring that they attain English, meet the same academic standards as their English-speaking peers, and achieve high levels of academic success.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) use Title III funding to enhance and further develop educational language instruction programs to support English learners and immigrant children. PDE is authorized under Title III to provide technical assistance and professional development to sub-grantees and consortia to support Title III authorized and approved activities, including community participation programs, family literacy services, and parent outreach and training activities to limited English proficient children and their families.
